Three things decide whether a bedside table works in your room: its height, its width and how much it needs to hold.
Height. Aim for the top to sit level with your mattress, or a few centimetres below, so a glass or a book is within easy reach when you are lying down. Measure from the floor to the top of the mattress before you choose.
Width. Measure the space between the bed and the wall, then leave a little room to walk past. In a small bedroom, a narrow bedside table keeps the essentials close without crowding the floor.

Dust with a soft, dry cloth. For marks, use a cloth that is barely damp, then dry straight away. Avoid harsh cleaners and abrasive sponges.
Keep it out of direct heat. A radiator right next to wood can dry it out over time, and strong sunlight slowly changes the colour of natural finishes.
